I know you've been there. You're running your small businesses, you're keeping up with all of your own accounting, products/service booking, performing the service or selling the product and of course acting as your own social media manager. It can be overwhelming to handle social media along with all of the other necessary responsibilities that come with running a businesses. Luckily, I have a few tips that are perfect to add to your routine to help your social media run a little more smoothly as a small business owner:
Monthly Content Planning
Actually spend time every month to plan your content! This can be as detailed as knowing exactly what you want to post when, or as simple as laying out your content pillars and making sure you post within those. So whether you have a detailed content calendar or just a running list of post ideas, give yourself some devoted time to content planning so you don’t have to stress later on. While it may seem difficult to set aside time each month to plan out your social media content, it will ultimately keep you more consistent and organized.
Evaluate Your Strategy Every 3 Months
While I wouldn’t suggest completely overhauling your strategy every 3 months; what you can do is take a look at what’s working and what’s not. This also helps to keep you accountable for your content pillars and whether or not you’ve been posting content that aligns with your strategy. Most social media managers want to go 6 months to a year before they change your strategy, and I fully agree with this, you should still be checking in on your strategy every three months. If you're not applying your strategy then it won't work anyway. Checking in every three months helps you stay on track with both your planning and your strategy.
Post Videos That Fit Your Brand
I’ll preach this until the end of time: Post for YOUR brand, YOUR audience and YOURSELF. This will always be more successful than trying to go viral. Going viral has become such a commonplace goal and I'm here to tell you, that's not a goal. Going viral is not a strategy either. If you're constantly aiming to go viral and sacrificing your brand or content that aligns with your company to do so, it's not going to be useful for your business!
You may go through seasons of uncertainty when it comes to social media. You may feel overwhelmed as a business owner trying to do your own social media at the same time. Implementing these habits into your business routine can drastically change both your social media presence, but also help to make running your businesses your top priority.
